There isn't one price for generic Ozempic in Canada. Manufacturers, public drug plans, insurers and pharmacies each publish a different kind of number. Here is each one, what it does and doesn't include, and how to get the figure that matters: your own pharmacy's quote.
What manufacturers and insurers said
When the first generics reached pharmacies, Apotex said its version would cost approximately one-third of brand Ozempic[1]. Canadian Press reported that, under pan-Canadian pricing rules, prices drop to at least 50% below the brand once two generics are available, and that coverage is decided separately by each provincial plan and private insurer[4]. One private insurer, Medavie Blue Cross, told members generic pricing may be as low as 35% of the brand price[5].
What public price lists show
Reported wholesale prices per four weeks were $78.14 generic vs $240.48 brand (as reported by The Globe and Mail, May 26, 2026; checked November 2, 2026 — may have changed)[6]. Ontario's drug benefit price is $78.1410 generic vs $227.94 Ozempic (as reported by Ontario Ministry of Health, June 30, 2026; checked November 2, 2026 — may have changed)[2]. BC's academic detailing service puts semaglutide at about $550–$1,100 a year (about $85 per pen) (as reported by BC Provincial Academic Detailing Service, BC Ministry of Health, July 27, 2026; checked November 2, 2026 — may have changed)[3].
Sevmia, the generic of Wegovy, appears in Ontario's list as interchangeable with Wegovy but not as a plan benefit, at $325.0480 per pen (as reported by Ontario Ministry of Health, August 31, 2026; checked November 2, 2026 — may have changed)[7].
What a pharmacy survey found
A price tracker that phoned Ontario pharmacies reported generic-pen cash prices of Costco $88.88[8], Rexall $99.00[8] and Shoppers Drug Mart $103.53[8], including the dispensing fee, on June 9, 2026. One survey, one province, one date — not a current price.
More generics are coming
Benefits and Pensions Monitor reported in September 2026 that Sandoz received Health Canada approval for a generic semaglutide for type 2 diabetes, with no launch date or price announced[9]. Ontario's September 2026 submission report lists an Aspen generic semaglutide among products that may be listed in future[10]. Health Canada's own list showed 11 semaglutide generic submissions under review as of September 30, 2026[11].
Why your price can differ
Public price tables exclude pharmacy markup and professional fees[3], and a plan price is what the plan pays the pharmacy, not what a cash customer pays[12]. Whether your plan covers it depends on your plan[4].
Prices and coverage are point-in-time and change. General information, not medical advice. Light Years earns nothing from any product named here.
